Attended my first week-long team retreat for Byteboard in Hawaii.
Last week, I had the privilege of meeting my team members from Byteboard in person for the first time. We stayed in the beautiful state of Hawaii for a week-long retreat. 🌺
The theme of the retreat was "Baking the Cake." We want to make sure we are putting the right ingredients into our cake because once it's in the oven and growing, it will be harder to make sweeping changes. We want to align on the cake we are building (aka our product vision)! 🍰
I've only been at Byteboard for a little over a month now. Still, I recognize that choosing to be a part of an early-stage startup team means I have the opportunity to help define the processes, culture, and standards for the team, product, and company for years to come. 🌱
Some highlights for me from the retreat:
→ exploring pain points for the current developer experience and how we can improve them 🛠️
→ having ten people in the kitchen when prepping dinner was chaotic but in a productive and fun way, and the results were consistently delicious 🍝
→ seeing a Hawaiian box fish while snorkeling 🤿
→ filming a Superbowl ad and having investors rate it based on a team defined rubric 🏈
All in all, good times! ~(^-^)~
My team's Superbowl Ad highlighted the absurdity of relying on Leetcode-like algorithms for technical assessments. When the going gets challenging and complex problems need to be solved, Leetcoding will get you nowhere.
