Sharing our journey into software engineering and relevant career advice with the community during Latinx Heritage Month.
According to Code.org, 67% of all new jobs in STEM are in computing. Computing jobs are also the first source of new wages in the US. These are jobs in every industry and state and are projected to grow twice the rate of all other jobs.
Unfortunately, only 2% of women in computing identify as Latina. 📈
Melisa Im and I have a combined 10+ years of full-time experience, and we are eager to share our advice and learnings with others. 💛
Join us for a special Latinx Heritage Month LinkedIn Live event as we discuss our journeys into software engineering and share relevant career advice with the community. 📚
In our one-hour discussion dubbed "Two Latina Software Engineers Talk Tech," Melisa and I covered the following:
✦ Our backstories on how we got into tech
✦ What our experiences were like at each stage of our careers
✦ Mistakes we've learned from your career and our advice
✦ Misconceptions about breaking into tech
✦ Tips we'd like to share for someone looking to break into tech
✦ Audience Q&A
TLDR; it isn't going to be easy, but once you get that first job, many more doors will open up for you. 🙆🏽♀️️
