Slack completely redesigned its notification system to address user overwhelm, migrating from four conflicting preference models to a unified system with three clear options. This architectural overhaul separated notification content from delivery method, giving users independent control over what activities trigger notifications and which devices receive push alerts.
Hosted a virtual AMA on Leland for Software Engineering Recruiting Week, sharing candid insights on what interviewers actually look for, what raises red flags, and how hiring decisions are really made.
Shipped sidebar improvements to Slack including channel indentation, smart breakpoints, consistent padding, and default section icons — a thoughtful glow-up that improves usability without disrupting familiarity.
